The brief we've been given is "Movement and Motion". After many wrong turns with ideas about basing it on one topic like football, gestures or optical illusions, I decided a broad topic would be better suited.
After being stopped at a traffic light in my car (the ones that are there just for pedestrians to cross) I realised just how controlled we are. Someone had pressed the button to cross and then went before they were meant to, so when I pulled up, I was being forced to stop even though it was perfectly safe to keep going as there were no pedestrians in sight. This got my mind going with thoughts about how I could do a study on how we control movement and maybe how we fare without control on our movements. When doing research on traffic lights, I found street artists that manipulate them for a funny effect. This gave me an idea for the red and green men abandoning their responsibilities and creating a series of images of traffic crashing due to the red and green men relaxing having coffee or doing stuff like that. After a word with my tutors they advised me to abandon that idea as it was more of a finished piece rather than a study.
I am currently making a video showing the effects of the traffic lights on the flow of traffic over a long period of time, and then speeding it up to show the patterns it creates. I have to get a lead to upload all the stuff I have on my camera and my phone, but when I get it, I'll put it up here as soon as possible..
