Sorry to say this is only my first post, but I've been neglecting this page as I've been too focussed on other aspects of first year and all that comes with it.
The brief we've been given is "Movement and Motion". After many wrong turns with ideas about basing it on one topic like football, gestures or optical illusions, I decided a broad topic would be better suited.
After being stopped at a traffic light in my car (the ones that are there just for pedestrians to cross) I realised just how controlled we are. Someone had pressed the button to cross and then went before they were meant to, so when I pulled up, I was being forced to stop even though it was perfectly safe to keep going as there were no pedestrians in sight. This got my mind going with thoughts about how I could do a study on how we control movement and maybe how we fare without control on our movements.
When doing research on traffic lights, I found street artists that manipulate them for a funny effect. This gave me an idea for the red and green men abandoning their responsibilities and creating a series of images of traffic crashing due to the red and green men relaxing having coffee or doing stuff like that. After a word with my tutors they advised me to abandon that idea as it was more of a finished piece rather than a study.
I am currently making a video showing the effects of the traffic lights on the flow of traffic over a long period of time, and then speeding it up to show the patterns it creates.
I have to get a lead to upload all the stuff I have on my camera and my phone, but when I get it, I'll put it up here as soon as possible..
